Football games, pumpkin spice flavored everything, and the crackling sounds of burning wood are a few of the signs the season has changed. Make sure you are ready for the transition by reviewing this checklist.
Clear the leaves.
Images of children jumping in the pile of autumn leaves might bring smiles and laughter, but unraked leaves can create a mess and pose a hazard. Keep your walkways clear and rake a couple of times throughout the season if needed.
Change the batteries.
Flashlights, smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide monitors all run on batteries. Be sure those items and other emergency equipment are working properly. Daylight saving time change weekends are good reminders to take advantage of these quick checks at least twice a year.
Convert the décor.
Store your beach umbrellas and knickknacks. Dust off those autumn wreaths, candles, pumpkins, and scarecrows. Take some extra time to weed through your wardrobe and swap out your flip-flops for your boots and your tank tops for your favorite school or college gear. Freshen up the look all around for the season.
Chop the wood.
Accumulate a few bundles of wood to start the season so you’ll be prepared for those crisp mornings outside by the fire pit or the enjoyable evenings around the living room fireplace. Store and cover the wood for your s’mores making moment.
Check the exterior.
Walk around your yard and house to check the exterior. Look for any clogged drains, rotting wood, or loose fence pickets. Tend to those repairs before it is too cold or else bad weather may create a more expensive maintenance nightmare.
Bring on Fall and enjoy the season!
