For some people, they experience four distinct seasons. For others of us, depending on the region where we live, we may only have two. Nevertheless, now is a good time to take a look at a few preparations for cooler weather. See what you need to accomplish before ol’ man Winter arrives.

Aerate & Fertilize the Lawn
Plan for a luscious lawn next season by taking time to aerate and fertilize your lawn this month. Aerating will break up your soil and allow fertilizer to get down into the roots.

Drain the Gasoline
After the final trim, drain and properly disperse of the gasoline from your lawn mower, leaf blower, and weed eater. Gasoline that sets for several months will simply break down, change in chemical composition, and cause problems for your gas-powered devices next season.

Inspect and Clean the Chimney
A professional inspection is the best way to go on this check. While the chimney sweep is cleaning, you can chop some wood or prepare your hot chocolate for the fire to come.

Inspect and Repair the Roof
After Spring showers and hurricane season, you want to give your roof an inspection. Repair any loose shingles and check for any water damage that needs to be addressed now before frost forms on your roof.

Clean the Gutters
Clear the drains on those gutters so rain, frost, and even snow can melt and runoff without obstruction.

Service Your HVAC Unit
Just because your AC has been pumping out cool doesn’t mean your heater will fire up properly when you switch the thermostat. Have your heater checked out before you begin using it this season.

Consider these chores with others you want to accomplish before cold and freeze set in. Small amounts of work will save you from bigger, more expensive issues in the future.
