Have a large amount of unused space in your backyard? Bocce Ball is a great game that friends and family of all ages will enjoy. And the best part? It’s pretty simple to make! Read below for easy-to-follow instructions:
- Prepare the area. Clear the area with a sod cutter, then level the ground to make sure it’s flat.
- Size it up. Mark the four corners of your court with chalk or spray paint. It can be any size you’d like, but regulation-size is 13 x 91 ft.
- Construct the frame. Cut 2x6s with a circular saw or table saw to the desired frame size. If using synthetic wood, you may want to double up!
- Secure the frame. Use wood screws to join the 2x6s, then drive 1’ stakes every 4-6 feet to support the material.
- Lay the groundwork. Load the base rock about 2-3 inches deep into the court and tamp it down with a compactor. Then add a level of decomposed granite into the area, making sure it remains level.
- Apply the final layer. Lay a coat, about a half of an inch, of oyster shell flour and rake until smooth. You can easily find this as local feed supply stores.
Grab your bocce ball set and some opponents, and then you’re all set to play!
