Looking for a simple, cheap, do-it-yourself project that can save you money? Then go check those leaky ducts. The joints in HVAC ducts can allow your hot or cool air to escape and waste your money. With minimal materials purchased and mere moments spent, you can seal those leaky joints and save some cash.
1) Grab your tools and materials. You will need a caulk gun, a household cleaner, rags, aluminum foil tape, and silicone caulk.
2) Clean your joints with a household cleaner and rag in order to remove any dust.
3) Use the silicone caulk to seal around the take-off boots. If you have round ductwork, use high-temperature UL181 aluminum foil tape to seal those joints. Do not use ordinary duct tape; it will not hold up well in various fluctuating temperatures.
With a few supplies and in just a short amount of time, you can stop your money from blowing away through those leaky air ducts.
